The kids are learning about Pilgrims and Indians. We wrote a non-fiction Native American book as a class. Be sure to take a look if you haven't already. They all worked so hard! Everyone enjoyed learning about Squanto and the first Thanksgiving. Have your child tell you all about it :)
The students had some opportunities to practice character traits again this week. We are learning that charater traits are what's inside and physical traits are on the outside. It is a slightly difficult concept, but they are doing much better! Friendly reminder about the Shoe Box for Soldier sheet that went home last week. Each class is putting together a box to send this holiday season. There are lists of suggested items. Principal Miller is collecting everything Tuesday, November 29. Hectic might be an understatement for this week :) Everyone is excited for a long and much needed break!
For our voting unit, we talked about why it is important and its history. We read the books Duck for President, Teacher for President and Grace for President and discussed each character's traits. The kids voted today on who they think would be the best fit for the job. They did a writing activity on why I would make a good president, and I loved reading all of the responses :) We also sampled chips and popcorn and took a class vote on which one is best. The Topic 3 math assessment is next Thursday, November 10. A practice test we completed as a class will be sent home to use as a study guide/extra practice if needed/wanted. The Veteran's Day celebration is next Friday, November 11. Breakfast starts at 8:00 and the school assembly begins at 9:00. Students are allowed to eat with their Veterans. Please check your child's folder for an explanation of a turkey project that is due next Friday. Enjoy the long weekend!
