I can tell Christmas break is right around the corner! The kids have been a little crazy :) We sure did get a lot done though. This week was all about adjectives, verbs and words that show feeling. We read books about The Grinch and made a bubble map of words that describe him, both physical and character traits. The students also got some extra practice with punctuation and capitalization. We are still producing some amazing non-fiction books.
Friendly reminder that Ugly Sweater Day is Monday, and the Christmas party is Wednesday from 11:45-12:30. It is a half day, so your child is welcome to leave with you after the party if you come. If you could, please bring a wrapped book for the book exchange we are doing. Thank you! Helper/snack list: Mon- Eli Tues- Morna Wednesday- 1/2 day, Party Thursday- No school Friday- No school

We dove into how-to writing and practiced with first, next, then and last sheets on how to wrap a gift and how to decorate a tree. The students are rock stars at this! We also worked on the understanding of a story's central message. We read Night Tree and the students had to think about the main idea, as well as give key details of the book. They did a great job.
I absolutely love watching the kids interest in non-fiction. They pieces they have put together and the recent books we have been working on are so impressive. Animals are a big hit. I can't wait for you to read what your child has learned and wrote about. We learned about non-fiction text features and the importance of each. Students used many of the features in their books- title, TOC, heading, photos, labels. Monday, December 19 is the school ugly sweater day! I'll be participating of course :) Friendly reminder that the class Christmas party is Wednesday, December 21 from 11:45-12:30. Helper/snack list: Mon- Brylee Tues- Slayden Wednesday- Clover Thursday- Tori Friday- Anthony birthday It was a great week back from a wonderful, long break. We are still working hard on our non-fiction writing. We learned all about brown bears and wrote a book about them. We also started researching a topic on PebbleGo. It is a wonderful, easy-to-use site. The kids are absolutely loving it. Most of them chose animals and are learning so much. We started writing our non-fiction chapter books today and should be finishing up tomorrow or Monday.
We went over letter writing, and the kids practiced with a letter to a friend or family member, as well as a letter to Santa. One of our books this week was Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They wrote a letter to Goldi as one of the bears. They had fun with it, and I really enjoyed reading their letters! Everyone enjoyed our magnetism lesson. We did a mini experiment and graphed our results. Tomorrow we are doing a Ramp and Roll Stem Challenge for a force and motion lesson. I'll be sure to post photos afterward.
