We survived our first full week of school since the middle of December :) Students worked on providing quality reasons and details in their opinion pieces. I noticed a lot of improvement this week! We started topic 10 in math. Students are working on adding using tens and ones.

You should find the Topic 9 math test, spelling test and new classroom roles. Some students have additional items. Please look through it and send back on Monday. I appreciate it, thank you! Our Valentine's Day party is Monday, February 14. It starts in the afternoon, so we are not having pizza/lunch. A signup sheet will be emailed out for those of you who would like to provide items needed for the party. We started opinion writing this week. Students learned how to state an opinion in the introduction, give reasons and write a conclusion. We are working on quality reasons and providing details next week.
For shared reading, we focused on vocabulary and comprehension strategies using a close-reading reindeer passage. We completed Topic 9 in math and prepared for the test next Tuesday. They enjoyed learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. and were really engaged in our discussions about him! We worked on the ng and nk digraphs in phonics. Next up is final e. Students worked hard and finished up their final teaching books. We celebrated today by reading the books to the class and enjoying hot chocolate. Leadership portfolios are coming home on Monday. For the next few weeks, we are working on place value and counting by/making numbers with tens and ones up to 120. We are doing the ch/tch digraph in Phonics next week. Students learned ways to make their own teaching books more interesting and detailed.

We talked about big rocks and how we have many important things in our lives, but certain things are more important than others.
We worked hard on teaching books. Students learned how to write an introduction, provide three quality facts and conclude their book. For Shared Reading, we read fiction Turkey books and recognized details, made predictions and practiced retelling. Topic 5 is a shorter one, so students already have another math test next Thursday. Students worked on l blends in Phonics, and next is r blends.
