The students enjoyed learning about Abe Lincoln. We created a KWL chart, and I am impressed by how much they already know about him. We found out things about his childhood, his successes and some fun facts. Have your child tell you a couple things he/she learned!
We are working so hard on our opinion pieces. The unit is coming to a close. Next Friday, the students write one that I keep to grade.
Another friendly reminder about Book It. If your child needs a new reading log, please let me know. Keep track of the books he/she reads to you. Once 10 books are read, bring the log in and your child receives a Pizza Hut coupon for a free pizza! We have a reading goal that I have not mentioned yet. Students who read 150 books by the end of March get to eat pizza in the classroom with me at lunch, my treat!
There are lots of dates to mark in your calendars for the next couple weeks! Tiger Pride is next Friday, February 24. The Book Fair also starts and goes into the following week. National Award-Winning Author Judy Young is coming to speak at our school on Wednesday, March 1, and Family Literacy Night is March 2.
