Another busy week! We celebrated the 100th Day of school and continued with our arctic animal science unit. Students learned about penguins, polar bears and walruses and their adaptations. We did a blubber experiment to comprehend the important role blubber has for a walrus. Students put both hands in a bucket of ice water. One hand was placed in a ziplock bag lined with crisco and the other straight in the ice. We learned that without blubber, a walrus couldn't withstand the extreme arctic temperatures.
The opinion writing is still a big hit, and students are learning how to create a quality piece that gives good reasons and examples. Friendly reminders. The Change-a-Life Coin Drive starts tomorrow and ends Friday. If you're wanting to participate, please send pennies and/or bills with you child. Our Valentine's Day party is Wednesday, February 14 from 2:45-3:25. Students exchange valentines at the start of the party. More details to come this week!
