The fall party last Friday was a blast—the kids had a great time.
We started our informational writing unit, and they are rocking it! We began looking at non-fiction texts and comparing them to fiction stories. I'm learning a lot from the students—Sonic the Hedgehog, making eggs, sharks, hunting and much more :) Next week, we research pumpkins as a class and write a teaching book. Friendly reminder to keep track of the books your child reads at home. If you don't have a reading log, any piece of paper is fine! Students earn free BookIt Pizza Hut pizzas. Also, students who log 100 books by March get to eat lunch with me. Hopefully good motivation for everyone :) Parent Teacher Conferences start Monday. Please let me know if you need a reminder on what day/time you signed up for. Thank you! Snack Helpers Monday- Skyler Tuesday- Spencer Wednesday- Gavin Thursday- Edyn Friday- No School

Happy Friday! Looking forward to the Fall Party today! We had an awesome week learning more about and practicing punctuation. We played a sentence writing game with dice. Depending on what the students rolled, they wrote a sentence using the correct punctuation. It was fun and engaging! Ask your child to tell you a fact about bats. We read informational books on Epic! and learned so many interesting things.
Red Ribbon Week starts Monday. For those who did not see the dress-up days: PJs | Fake Injury | Western Wear | Red | Tiger Wear Our next Tiger Pride is Friday, October 26 at 2:30. Hope some of you can make it! Also, Parent Teacher Conferences are right around the corner. Please let me know if you need a reminder on what day/time you signed up for. Thank you! Snack Helpers Monday- Braylee Tuesday- Levi D Wednesday- Grady Thursday- Colt Friday- Amy Students enjoyed learning about fire safety this week. Fire fighters came and spoke about what to expect if there is a fire and educated us on their equipment, uniform and how to be safe. For shared reading, we read and discussed fiction and non-fiction fire safety books, along with a Weekly Reader that compared fire dogs long ago and today. Ask your child what we learned about the dogs and horses :)
We learned about punctuation and practiced choosing the correct type for passages that had no punctuation. The goal is for students to transfer and apply this to their writing. Friday, October 19 is the Fall Party and a half day. Friendly reminder to send $3 with your student to help cover the cost of games, pizza, fruit and cookies. Thank you! Snack Helpers Monday- Igor Tuesday- Alex Wednesday- Jaxon Thursday- Kiera (birthday!) Friday- Fall party What a great week! We finished Habit 3: Put First Things First and are moving on to Habit 4: Think Win-Win on Monday. Students are practicing the habits and noticing when they are. For shared reading, we worked on comprehension and discussed manners. Ask your child about What if Everybody Did That or Do Unto Otters :)
Students learned about craft moves in writing, such as pop-out words and ellipses, and practiced using them in their stories. I introduced proficiency scales to students a few weeks ago. We started by doing one together on carpet behavior. I created one for How to Make and Fly a Paper Airplane that we used today. They had a blast! It was so neat to hear them use the proficiency scale language and know where they are--1, 2, 3 or 4. Friendly reminder, Tuesday, October 9 is picture day, and October 11 is the parent information night at 6pm that Principal Miller is leading.
