For shared reading, we focused on recognizing the main idea of a passage or book. We explored and practiced more craft moves (ellipses, exact actions, pop-out words) for narrative writing.
Students are still working on adding and subtracting within 20. They are solving word problems, finding the missing part in an equation. Our Topic 2 test is next Thursday. Friendly reminder that students reached 20 and filled up our Proud board this week! They voted to bring a stuffed animal/figure to school. Wednesday, Oct 6, they can bring something that fits in their backpack. Due to the 3-day week next week, there are no sight words/spelling test. We will review and focus on spelling patterns that align with phonics. If you haven't already, please sign up for a Parent Teacher Conference on the document I sent out via email. Students continued working hard on small moment narrative stories. We read mentor texts that show author's using small steps, exact actions and detail.
DRA's are complete, and Guided Reading Groups are up and running! A district reading sheet is coming home today with your child's reading level and the proficiency level chart by grade. The levels listed are the goal by the end of each quarter. I would have loved to have an Open House this year, but I hoped you enjoyed my quick informational videos I sent via SeeSaw and have a better idea of some things taking place in our classroom! We are also building and adding to Leadership Portfolios and will have some great things to showcase at Parent Teacher Conferences. Students worked on making their narrative stories come to life with action, feeling and small steps. They are working so hard—I even bragged on them to other teachers! Our class goal is for each child to grow at least one reading level from now until the end of first quarter. The lead measure is doing listen to reading (Epic, Raz-Kids) daily and tracking it. In a couple weeks, students work with me to decide on an individual reading goal. Citizenship was the focus in Social Studies this week. There is a SeeSaw activity to check out in your child's journal if you haven't already. We finished Topic 1 in math and jump into Topic 2: Doubles on Monday. Our habit focus for September is Habit 1: Be Proactive. We have been discussing choosing our attitude and being responsible. Mr. Wilson's 4th grade class joined us for reading buddies. The kids really enjoyed it! We will do this most Fridays. The Topic 1 test is next Thursday. A study guide is coming home early next week for extra practice. Friendly reminder that next week is spirit week with dress-up days for homecoming. A sheet came home with students, and I sent a picture of it on SeeSaw. Students dismiss at 12:30 on Friday. The NWEA math and reading assessments are next Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure your child's ipad is coming back to school each day. Friendly reminder, if you are not receiving my SeeSaw messages/announcements, please let me know. I communicate via this app multiple times each week. Also, the scholastic book order I sent home on Meet the Teacher Night is due today for those who want books. Let me know if you would still like to order, and I will wait until Monday to place the order. Thank you, and have a great holiday weekend!
