We focused on punctuation in shared reading. Students worked so hard publishing a narrative for our writing celebration today! Everyone picked his/her favorite piece from this unit, revised, edited and rewrote. They read their final product to the class and took a lot of pride in it!
When/if your child finishes reading 30 books at home, please sign the back of the scratch-off bookmark and have your child bring it back to school for a special prize. Students are working hard in reading group. The goal is that by the end of first quarter, each student grows at least one reading level (refer to sheet I sent home) from the DRA I gave last month.
Our behavior focus for October is self control on the carpet. Each carpet time (during a lesson, read aloud, etc.) that we do what is expected, we add a sprinkle to our donut tracker. We set a goal to get 50 sprinkles by October 28. If they reach the goal, I am buying donuts for the class on October 29! Students are still working on adding and subtracting within 20. They are solving word problems, finding the missing part in an equation. Our Topic 2 test is next Thursday. Friendly reminder that students reached 20 and filled up our Proud board this week! They voted to bring a stuffed animal/figure to school. Wednesday, Oct 6, they can bring something that fits in their backpack. Due to the 3-day week next week, there are no sight words/spelling test. We will review and focus on spelling patterns that align with phonics. If you haven't already, please sign up for a Parent Teacher Conference on the document I sent out via email. DRA's are complete, and Guided Reading Groups are up and running! A district reading sheet is coming home today with your child's reading level and the proficiency level chart by grade. The levels listed are the goal by the end of each quarter. I would have loved to have an Open House this year, but I hoped you enjoyed my quick informational videos I sent via SeeSaw and have a better idea of some things taking place in our classroom! We are also building and adding to Leadership Portfolios and will have some great things to showcase at Parent Teacher Conferences. Students worked on making their narrative stories come to life with action, feeling and small steps. They are working so hard—I even bragged on them to other teachers! Our class goal is for each child to grow at least one reading level from now until the end of first quarter. The lead measure is doing listen to reading (Epic, Raz-Kids) daily and tracking it. In a couple weeks, students work with me to decide on an individual reading goal. Citizenship was the focus in Social Studies this week. There is a SeeSaw activity to check out in your child's journal if you haven't already. We finished Topic 1 in math and jump into Topic 2: Doubles on Monday. Snack helpers Mon- Eleanor (happy birthday!) Tues- Tucker Wed- Kylie Thu- Ethan Fri- Braeley Field Day was a success! We had a blast. We had an ice-cream theme the rest of the week full of books, writing prompts and an ice-cream party.
It is so important for your child to read throughout the summer. It's most beneficial for kids to read books that are on or right above their level. There are online/app options, such as Raz-Kids. As I mentioned at the first of the year, I like it because the books are on your child's level. He/she listens to the book, reads the book, then answers comprehension questions. If you are not already connected, our class is Willardeast1, and the password is the strawberry icon. I've more than enjoyed having this group of kids. It was a blessing! The year flew by, and I am sad to see them go. It was so fun getting to know everyone and creating our class family. I hope summer treats you all well. Thank you for letting me teach and love your child! |
