Students learned more in depth about nonfiction books and their text features. They are practicing using a TOC, headings, labels, glossary, etc. in their writing pieces. National Geographic Kids' books are great to reference. Many of the students used ones we have in our classroom library. We are learning how to get information from sources, such as NGK or PebbleGo, without copying word for word.
I read many of my favorite Christmas books this week. For Night Tree, we worked on identifying the central message, along with key details. The kids are enjoying keeping up with the weather in science. We are graphing it, along with keeping track of the temperature on a weather journal calendar. Our next and final math assessment before the break is Thursday. The optional study guide came home this week. We ended the week with a fun STEM challenge. Each team was given 12 pipe cleaners and worked together to build the tallest free-standing christmas tree. Our holiday party is Thursday, December 21 at 11:45. This is a half day, so students dismiss at 12:30. More information to come. Thank you, and have a great weekend! Snack Helpers We have 24 students in our class now!
