Field Day was a success! We had a blast. We had an ice-cream theme the rest of the week full of books, writing prompts and an ice-cream party.
It is so important for your child to read throughout the summer. It's most beneficial for kids to read books that are on or right above their level. There are online/app options, such as Raz-Kids. As I mentioned at the first of the year, I like it because the books are on your child's level. He/she listens to the book, reads the book, then answers comprehension questions. If you are not already connected, our class is Willardeast1, and the password is the strawberry icon. I've more than enjoyed having this group of kids. It was a blessing! The year flew by, and I am sad to see them go. It was so fun getting to know everyone and creating our class family. I hope summer treats you all well. Thank you for letting me teach and love your child!

Emotions continued to be the focus of shared reading. For writing, students worked on making connections to book characters. We also discussed growth mindset and the power of yet. Students wrote about something they have not done or can't do yet and how they will grow/get there.
We are still working on addition fluency in math, and students learned about the Wright Brothers and made paper airplanes and helicopters in science. Next week students practice any sight words during word work. There is no spelling test. It is disappointing Field Day has to be postponed to Monday, but at least we get to have it! We are outside from 9-10:45am. PB&J is the only lunch choice, and we will still have snow cones after lunch. Looking forward to seeing you! Thank you! They enjoyed working together and learning more about each other.
Emotions were the focus of shared reading. We practiced noticing less obvious words and phrases that authors use to show emotion. We've been exploring space and astronauts. Students made a constellation with marshmallows and toothpicks and a rocket with a balloon, string, a straw and tape. They had a great time experimenting this week. Next week's review words: children, school, brother, sister, teacher Friendly reminder that next Friday is Field Day. We are outside from 9-11am. If you'd like to come and enjoy or help, please bring your drivers license to Angie by Wednesday so she can get it scanned and in the new system. Looking forward to seeing you! Thank you!
