For Shared Reading, we read National Geographic Kids books and focused on non-fiction text features (TOC, headings, maps, captions, labels, etc.). Students learned ways to make their own teaching books more interesting and detailed.
Leadership portfolios are coming home today. You should find the Topic 5 math test, two new spelling tests and a teaching book. (In regards to the math test--it covered two standards. I only reported on the 1.OA.3 standard on most of the tests. I am going to reteach the other standard and have students practice it more, then I will reassess). Please look through the portfolio and send it back to school on Monday. We are reviewing in Phonics next week. Here are the sight words we are revisiting: give, quit, friend, pretty, from I will not post on the blog next week due to the 2-day week. Thank you, and have a great weekend! Students continued to work hard on teaching books. We learned about chapters and TOCs. For Shared Reading, we practiced comprehension with a 5-finger retell (who, what, where, how, why).
I will look at the Topic 5 math test this weekend. Leadership Portfolios come home next Friday, so I will have the kids put the test in there. We enjoyed learning about Veterans Day and had a successful parade! The sh blend is next in Phonics. Sight words: she, be, me, we, your (easier than last week!) Students worked on l blends in Phonics, and next is r blends.
