For Leader in Me the last couple weeks, our time has been spent discussing and learning about Habit 3: Put First Things First.
We started non-fiction teaching books--our second writing unit. We discussed the differences between fiction and non-fiction, as well as opinion vs. fact. We practiced writing as a class, and students wrote their first books about bats. Students took the Topic 4 math test. It is coming home today with the proficiency score at the top. We learned about pumpkins, explored fall/Halloween books and activities and completed a dissolving candy corn experiment. Here is the radio recording of our class saying the Pledge of Allegiance in case you missed it. Have a great weekend! Snack helpers Mon- Brooke happy birthday! Students had fun publishing/rewriting their edited narrative small moment stories. Those came home yesterday with a proficiency score at the top. Conventions (spelling, punctuation, capitalization) are recorded on the report card as well. We are finishing off this writing unit by learning about and practicing ellipses, exact actions and pop-out words. We started tracking our lead measure (doing Raz-Kids for Listen to Reading 4 days a week) for our class reading growth goal. Students track on their own, then each Friday morning we reflect as a group. Depending on the number of kids who meet the goal, we have a small celebration afterward. The Topic 3 math test is next Wednesday. We'll finish the lessons Monday and review Tuesday. Friendly reminder that the fall party is next Friday, October 16.
