We had a fun, busy, productive week! Students observed pieces of pumpkin in bowls. Ask your child which pumpkin changed the most (empty, water, soil). We also did a candy corn experiment and a pumpkin catapult STEM challenge. Lots of team building!
For writing, we worked together on a non-fiction pumpkin book. We took our Topic 3 math test today, and they did great. Have a good long weekend! Snack Helpers Monday- NO SCHOOL Tuesday- NO SCHOOL Wednesday- Kinley T Thursday- Kyanna Friday- Maria

We started Informational Writing—our second unit. This is a favorite among students from year to year. It is one of my favorites as well! We discussed the proficiency scale and what's expected for these teaching books, as well as brainstormed topics we can write about.
Students are working hard in guided reading groups. If you haven't already, please sign up here for next week's parent teacher conferences. It is important that I meet with every family for fall conferences. Thank you! Friendly reminder, students are out of school Friday, Nov 1, as well as Nov 4 and 5. Ask your child about one of the books we read for Shared Reading!
I am looking forward to you reading your child's published narrative. Everyone worked hard to edit, add to and rewrite his/her favorite small moment story. Students can read a map key, as well as locate a place by pointing it out on a map and using cardinal directions. They enjoyed creating a map of our room and asking their group members questions about the direction you travel to get from one spot to another.
