What an incredible official first week! Our class has soaked up so much information already. Aside from going over procedures, routines and expected behaviors, we've talked a lot about writing and reading. Ask your child about their Heart Map and what people, things and places they wrote inside. This is kept in their writing binder and used throughout the beginning of the year to help spark ideas on what to write about.
On Monday, we launched Read to Self by discussing what this Daily 5 time should look and sound like. Ask your child about this list! We started reading for 3 minutes and are slowly building our stamina. I was so impressed with how well they modeled the appropriate behaviors right off the bat. They have also listened to some great books during our Shared Reading. Have you child retell one of them to you--Mrs. Smith's Incredible Storybook, Jack's Talent or Each Kindness.
Our new Math, enVision, comes with student workbooks. Each week, I'll send home the pages that we worked on. We won't get to all of the practice problems at times. It usually won't be homework, but your child is welcome to complete for extra practice.
You've probably noticed the Class Dojo point tracker by now. The students fill out their positive and negative points each day. This stays in the take-home folder, but at the end of each week, please initial in the appropriate box. Thank you!
